Working from home, how to do it, what to have and what to know
Telecommuting has become a real way of working in these times of pandemic. Many people have been doing this for years. Some have embraced it since the beginning of the COVID-19 health crisis, while others will soon discover it. If you are in this third case, various questions may cross your mind. Find out everything you need to know about this remote working method.
Have the necessary equipment
Working from home means, in most cases, using a computer and an Internet connection. You will be able to stay in direct contact with colleagues and managers using computer tools.
Try to have your own PC to avoid sharing it with children, for example. Plus, your computer won’t get infected with viruses if you’re the only one using it in the house.
Keeping your focus
One of the major challenges when you work from home is keeping your focus throughout the day. Indeed, there are many temptations: taking a break that can turn into a nap, watching a soccer game that lasts 90 minutes on TV, giving in to the whims of children and playing with them all morning…
You must be able to stay focused by imposing strict rules on yourself. Try to stay focused on your work during office hours so that you can get out of work faster. Tell your children not to disturb you at certain times, limit your movements in the house as much as possible, since you can easily lose focus.
Organize your environment
This is about setting up your small work space at home to put you in the best possible position. Choose a relatively quiet area of the house, away from children and pets, to set up your office.
This way, you won’t risk colleagues and superiors seeing your little family running around during a video meeting. You will also be in the best position to focus on your work during the day.
